The souls of RS and MSvS are currently incarnated in the USA. As are EW and CM. However, this is not relevant to what each individual can be doing through Anthroposophy in the world today. RS was RS then in that life as a teacher. This life for her (yes, a woman) is not about teaching. Finally, if you really want to assess the reality of the woman in Germany, give her birth chart to Robert Powell. Through Astrosophy, he can tell you the likelihood of her claims.

One of the strangest things that has come to my attention, as a member of the AS over the years, is the number of statements written down by others, and the attributed by them to Steiner.   These are handled as little treasures, especially if they can be made to fit into one's own biases, and thereby serve our own agenda.   Yet, how would we "know" Steiner actually said them, or that the person writing them down did so accurately.  Or, even more importantly, why should we ever give any such spiritual "gossip" about anyone any kind of legitimacy.

For example, most of Giersch's arguments that quote Steiner as saying himself that the Christmas Conference failed (see: http://ipwebdev.com/hermit/Giersch.html ) consist of private quotes from Steiner to others, much the same as Tom reports above.

Granted spiritual gossip is fun, but that is the sign of its potential to mislead us.  We can pass it on with a feeling of delight, and since so many already have turned Steiner into a minor deity, this makes it all the more juicy.   Pssst, did you hear that Christ told John, just before his death, that the Father was .... (fill in the blank).

Then we get the game being played above about who is or is not some prior incarnation, which may or may not be true, and certainly can ONLY confuse us about any incarnate personality.  What a way to confuse ourselves, or others, through evoking a prior incarnation as proof of something.   VT as the future Maitreya Buddha - does what?   Makes his work more worthy, or less worthy.   One of Prokofieff's wonders in his first book on VT was the amount of spiritual gossip (often taking the form of "a person whose name I cannot mention told me that VT was telling all his close associates what their prior incarnations were").

Are we really still in high school?

As far as I can tell, Steiner wished us to be "scientists of the spirit", which means at the least having some respect for that which might be called "spiritual facts", coupled with the discipline not to repeat all over the place the "gossip", as if the "gossip" was just as important as a well earned (through one's own activity) spiritual observation.

People, who want to be spiritual scientists, need to get into the habit of: 1) trying to stick with facts; 2) not turning Steiner into any kind of authority; and, 3) seriously taking up spiritual disciplines so that they can then speak from the sureity of their own insight, and not have to rely on the thinking of others.

p.s. #1 As to Judith von Halle:  People should read carefully Steiner's lectures called: Pastoral Medicine.  Nothing against her personally, but she gives no evidence of having trained herself to be a spiritual scientist, yet there she is offering her "visions" as spiritual research.  Anthroposophists looking for the next Steiner (in the sense of someone whose thinking they will worship) have annointed her because she bears the Stigmata.  Generally that means that one's unredeemed astrality is so emotionally powerful, that it can directly invade the physical body, by overwhelming the ethereal body (see Pastoral Medicine).   Saints are not spiritual scientists.  Doesn't mean we should not experience wonder and awe in the face of their sacrifices.  We just need to make certain kinds of distinctions as to how visionary experience arises, and decide whether there are to be any "scientific" standards at all for the assertion that someone's visions are what Steiner meant by Imaginative experiences.

p.s. #2 As to Valentin Tomberg: His book Mediations on the Tarot, if read carefully, reveals he did not follow the same path as Steiner (the PoF path), but rather the Knowledge of Higher Worlds' path, which Steiner in Occult Science (4/5's of the way through Chapter Five) writes is not as sure and as exact as the PoF path.  In Meditations we will find nothing about Steiner's epistemological works, nothing on Goethean Science and nothing on PoF as Steiner's path.  These are serious ommisions from someone (VT) acting as if they were giving a profound overview of humanity's spiritual life (for some details: read "Wendt on Usher on Prokofieff on Tomberg on Steiner"  http://ipwebdev.com/hermit/WendtonUsher.html

I have such mixed feelings about your actions here. On the one hand, I am amazed that you, of all people writing,  would censor yourself so drastically, especially since that biographical sketch of your daughter was so moving. But you know what’s best for yourself --- (and for so many others too if only they would listen to you, alas!). On the other hand, the sign of a great writer is that he is able to edit and/or censor himself --- as Hemingway said, develop a good BS detector for his own writings. So, this act of self-censorship could very well be prima facie evidence of your own greatness as a writer, Joel.  Fancy that!

Now I understand there are technical difficulties involved because I made a response to your offering which then was eliminated when you erased your own post. Therefore, I will restore my response to you here because I have linked to this Journal entry on many English speaking Steiner forums as well as to a few blogs in German and in Sweden as well.  Thus, I wouldn’t want those people who come here to wonder why they arrived.

Dear Joel,

How exciting that we are both back on the beam doing the America-work of Rev. Carl Stegmann that first brought us together in 1982 at Rudolf Steiner College in Sacramento. Why, it's a veritable Saturn Return of 29 years, so karma is being fulfilled --- well, at least re-cycled.

I am absolutely thrilled that you would nominate your own daughter here for the Rudolf Steiner Reincarnation Sweepstakes.  You know, I actually do remember meeting your daughter at Steiner College or environs in 1982 or 83 when she was about 16. I’m hazy on the name but it’s a D, like Doreen, or Dawn, Dora? (Also, I may be mixing up the name of your wife then, I assume her mother.) At any rate, it’s great to see that she has accomplished so much, and she’s right here in Los Angeles where I am.

And, on that note of etheric geographical destiny, I must credit you, Joel, with inspiring me with an idea that just might take off right here in Hollywood.   As the man with the lamp says in Goethe’s fairy tale: “Es ist an der Zeit!” which I have translated before as:  “The time is now” but now, being in Hollywood, my new improved translation is:  “It’s show time!”

So what I propose is a television program, modeled along the lines of “American Idol” with Simon Cowell. Only we would call it “Anthroposophical Idol” and it would be hosted primarily by Robert Powell.  Wow, dig it, man, their names even rhyme:  Cowell, Powell.

The program would feature contestants like your daughter, from all over the world, who would put forth their case that they are the long-awaited 21st century reincarnation of Rudolf Steiner.  (Hmmm, another title idea:  “Steiner Search!”)  Anyway, the reason Robert Powell would be chief judge is because of the astrosophical analysis that he would do for each contestant.

We know that Dr. Steiner told us that when a person dies, he has what we the living call a “Death Chart,” but it’s actually the person’s “Birth Chart” into the spiritual world. The person sojourns through kama loka, reaches Cosmic Midnight, etc., and gets ready for a new life, but always looks back to his or her “spiritual birth chart.” For that reason, Steiner tells us, the person will try to arrange his/her new physical birth chart so that it most closely imitates the (physical) Death Chart from the previous life.

Now, that will not be the only criterion used, but of course, it will have a great weight. We’ll figure out some point system like the judges in Olympic figure skating, say.  Interestingly enough, I intend to nominate my own daughter, who was born in 1983, because she was born on the 2nd Saturn Return of Steiner’s death chart in 1925.  I do believe my daughter’s astrosophy will outdo your daughter’s astrosophy, but your daughter might have a much more compelling narrative. That means we still have to select other judges besides Powell, but of course, he would be the main one.

And there might even be a place for you, Joel. Not as judge, of course, (ironically because you’re too judgmental to be a judge. 8-)  Isn’t that cool?)  See, Joel you are far better off as blathering curmudgeon, pontificating from your hermit cave. So maybe at the beginning of each show, we could have you on with one of your YouTube videos, but of course we would only have you on for 30 seconds, then cut you off, but then to return at the end of the show as the credits roll, and you could be criticizing all of this like the persnickety, censorious, judgmental, condemnatory Mother Superior you probably were at some convent or abbey in a medieval incarnation.  Damn, Joel, you do disapproval so well, it needs to be on prime time TV!  So we’ll definitely work it into the show.
