The attention comes partly because their farm is successful, but mainly because nearly half of the residents of this community are developmentally disabled. (4:25) Near Callan in County Kilkenny, is a small rural community caring at present for 22 children and 12 adults, all with disabilities. It was established in 1979 as a therapeutic farm, to provide a home and school maily for children with exceptional needs, some with multiple disabilities and disturbances. This video was made during their recent Open Day and tries to give a feeling of what that day was like along with some history and a bit about the renewable energy and sustainable living projects that are going on out there. |

(8:47) Glencraig is a in Northern Ireland with about 200 people, with its woods, fields and parklands surrounding 19 houses, a school and workshops, with the farm at its heart. The creation of a healthy therapeutic environment is enhanced, not only by the use of biodynamic agriculture, but also by attention to the environment as a whole. The store provides the Community with many natural whole-foods. The farm and market garden produce milk, meat, vegetables and fruit, without the use of pesticides or artificial fertilisers. The healing of the environment is fundamental to the philosophy of the Community. |
