Timely Native American Story

Submitted by Jay Harms on Wed, 08/24/2005 - 3:42pm.

One evening an old Apache Warrior told his grandson about a battle that constantly goes on inside of people. He said, "My son, the battle is between two 'wolves' inside all of us.
One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith."
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather,"Which wolf wins?"
The old Apache simply replied, "The one you feed."

before or after

I love this, Jay! have I heard this before, or a version of it???????? It is ringing a bell way back in an underground church in the farthest corner of my mind......

It reminds me, for some strange reason, of one of my favorite little stories that Krishnamuri (sp) told. Incidently, did you know that Steiner split with the Theosophists after they announced the Big K as the second coming? This is from the speach K gave upon becoming the leader and IMMEDIATELY dissolving the group. It's short, sweet and very true. Let's be careful how organized we get with POF; just kidding:::::: here it is:

You may remember the story of how the devil and a friend of his were walking down the street, when they saw ahead of them a man stoop down and pick up something from the ground, look at it, and put it away in his pocket. The friend said to the devil, "What did that man pick up?" "He picked up a piece of Truth," said the devil. "That is a very bad business for you, then," said his friend. "Oh, not at all," the devil replied, "I am going to let him organize it."

I hate to say this (actually, I don't, I just thought that sounded right) but I don't take much stock in anything Krishnamurti said. My understanding is that he rejected the idea of clairvoyance and occult knowledge. And this he did after being 'discovered' through clairvoyant means! (by Leadbetter, who according to some sources was a pedophile)

He was a poor kid found in India and then raised as a messiah - I think he developed serious delusions and just started believing that anything that came into his head was gospel truth because everyone around him told him that his ((use your imagination here)) didn't stink.
