Eurythmy Participation Opportunities

Submitted by Tom Last on Sun, 06/24/2007 - 10:12am.

In the brief time we have started a Eurythmy Group on this POF web site I have had two inquiries looking for a place to practice eurythmy in their area, the Hillsborough Auckland, New Zealand area and Southampton,  UK area. Is there a resource to locate eurythmy activity in an area for those interested in participating? Is the only opportunity available a formal training at a training center or is their another opportunity for a more casual experience.

Is this an area that needs to be developed? What if I want to learn about and experience eurythmy in my area? Would that involve locating a local eurythmist and asking them if they would be interested in starting a eurythmy group for the public? A place where anyone could go to experience the movement of eurythmy?

Finding eurythmists and eurythmy opportunities

Eurythmists in many places offer beginners' classes and run regular sessions with a group of enthusiasts. Waldorf Schools sometimes have a parents' group which may run at certain seasons or all year round. Eurythmy training centres are good places for regular activity. Do knock on euythmists' doors for attention - they all are full of good will - but knock gently because most working eurythmists are fully stretched. Be prepared to pay a modest fee for eurythmy lessons and groups. Check out the list of subscribers to this group - top right on this page - to see if someone lives in your area!

I have a list of contact points for UK and USA on the Discover Eurythmy contact page. This option is perfect for the UK because a colleague is able to respond personally from the Eurythmy Association files. The USA associations are also good places to ask as they know where eurythmists are active. Requests for contact to active eurythmists and eurythmy opportunites have been popular at Discover Eurythmy for the whole of its existence.

Other countries are less well represented - see Discover Eurythmy resources - so I would be delighted to hear of good contact people who can guide the perplexed. Any new information will be added to Discover Eurythmy and notified here in the Group. There are eurythmy associations in other countries which are not listed on DE, either because they are not in English so I cannot read them, or because I do not know about them. The networking is still in its infancy. We need more active folk who can help circulate information.

Anyone who is well informed and who is willing to respond to requests for eurythmy contacts in a specific area is welcome to contact me, or just post your offer here. If you are running open classes - or attending an open class - contact me directly if you would like to publicise your opportunity on Discover Eurythmy.

Discover Eurythmy encodes all email addresses so that robots and spammers will not find you - so far so good - so your email is safely concealed and only available to real people who click on the webpage.
